Change the Way You Shop - For Good

As a mompreneur or side-hustler, you might find yourself working from interesting locations. This could include coffee shops, client offices, the couch, the car or even (in extreme situations, parking lots). Don't fall into the trap of grabbing takeout too often! I've made a point of rather packing snacks and lunch for all family members whenever we leave the house. This not only saves cash, but also temptation when no healthy alternatives are available.

I am a sucker for online shopping. I have a few favourite sites that seem to have just the right mix of awesome and great pFaithful to Nature has been helping South Africans to shop online for natural and eco-friendly alternatives to all the products they use daily for over twelve years now. Their plant-based pantry essentials are all-natural eats, ideal as part of a healthy, balanced diet. From breakfast, lunch and supper to all the snacks in between, they've got what your body craves! All of our pantry essentials are free from artificial flavouring, colouring and preservatives to keep your pantry as Faithful to Nature as can be! I've rounded up a few our our favourite swap-outs from recent grocery shops below:

Easy Swop Outs

Chia Pudding

Organic Chia Seeds are raw, vegan and GMO-free. These ancient super seeds are very high in omega-3s and packed with fibre. With their mild flavour, FTNs organic chia seeds can be added to smoothies, salads, soups and more.

Avo on Toast

Still a firm favourite.... Ava on Toast. Whether you serve it on white or wholewheat or toasted rye, the combinations are endless. Avocados are an excellent source of monounsaturated fat and vitamin E, and are a good source of folate. They also supply more soluble fibre than other fruit and contain a number of useful minerals including iron, copper and potassium. Try with some Organic Lemony Pepper from Good Life and Coarse Himalayan Salt and you're good to go. Need to pack it to go? Add some lemon juice and no more brown avo.

Nut Butters....

Whether you prefer smooth or crunchy peanut butter or more decadent nut-butters like chocolate almond.... The sky is the limit. Whether you have it on seeded biscuits, Provitas or rice cakes (my 6 year old eats almond butter on Granny Smith apples) you can have it pretty much any way your heart-desires, including out of the jar.

Nut butters contain a mix of nutrients including fiber, protein, B vitamins, phosphorous, zinc, and vitamin E. Nut butters are loaded with heart-healthy monounsaturated fats. These fats help increase HDL cholesterol—the good kind—while keeping LDL cholesterol—the bad kind—in check.

Air-popped Popcorn

When it's air-popped and lightly seasoned, popcorn is an efficiently healthy snack. That's because it is a whole grain, and high-fiber whole grains have been linked to a lower risk of heart disease, diabetes, some cancers and other health problems. Dietary guidelines say half of all grains consumed should be whole grains, and popcorn packs more fiber per serving than whole-wheat bread. Just be careful with portion sizes if you do not make the air-popped variety;-)

Juices galore

Not only are juices a great way to get your daily fix of fruit and veg, but its a fantastic way to reduce food waste.

Making your own vegetable juices, or green juices, from ingredients you have on hand is another great way to reduce food waste! Juicing allows you to mix and match produce that you already have in your kitchen in order to create your own recipes for great tasting drinks. It's also really easy to give your daily juice a super food booster by adding Acai Berry Powder or Spirulina
